Lucky Star: Somehow

Ben

He rubbed his face and groaned.  Not about the ink he smudged on his cheek.  He didn’t even know about that yet.  He had learned that it was pretty exciting to get letters, but pretty much not-so-much to write them.  But his strong sense of responsibility about certain things still surprised people, and it was no different with this.  He knew he wasn’t so good at it, but writing back was like a duty, and he didn’t even consider shirking it.  Delaying, maybe, but he’d do it.

Besides, it wasn’t really so bad once he got going.  So he pushed Tripper away and warned him not to tip over the pot of ink.  Or eat the paper.  Or bump him just when he figured out what he wanted to write so that it looked like a black jagged baby lightning thing struck the letter in the middle or something.  All of that would probably happen, of course, and he’d laugh after yelling at the puppy.  And the letters would still get done.

Somehow.

Hey izrê,

That whole sleeping thing sounds weird.  But I could do it, I bet.  I kind of like the sound of storms and wind and that when I’m warm.  It makes me sleepy, so.  That’s probably why they do it.  But like.  I’d have the biggest boner ever when I woke up.  Haaaa.

I’m glad you’re good.  Poor Atan.  I’d warm you if I could.  Me and Trip are good, too.  And Ian.  He wasn’t reclusive, like you said, it turned out he was just making stuff in his room.  He made stuff for Nallo and the old bloke and Nati and me and Trip.  Little quilts, like.  But don’t worry about him, izrê.  He’s fine.  In a good mood, even.  He’s all excited and shit because Nallo’s going to be doing some lecture stuff, and Ian said he asked him to help plan the lessons.

Nati’s good, too.  He’s been staying over some.  He’s had these dreams, and he finally figured out it was about you.  So he showed it to me.  I know it sounds weird.  It is.  But you know how you show me stuff sometimes?  It’s kind of like that, only in a dream.  I liked it, though.  I couldn’t really see anything much, but.  I heard these sounds.  It was kind of like a song, you know?  But like.  It was wind, too.  But somehow I knew it came from you.  It was pretty brilliant.

Right, so Ash told me more about what happened.  There’s this guild thing in Gondor, right?  And it’s made up of like.  Really bad people.  Hrafen and his people used to keep them in line and that, I guess.  But somebody thought he was here, and they tried to set him up and make it look like he was working with them.  Some captain back in Gondor was looking for special favors or something, it sounds like.  So then, somebody tried to kill him.  I don’t know why, because like.  That sounds dumb.  And it just pissed Cole off, but they found out what’s going on from the people that tried to get Hrafen.  So they started planning a way to turn things around, right?

Anyway, one night Ash got caught out by himself, and three blokes tied him up and took him away.  He got out of the ropes, but he heard them say they were trying to get Nati, too, so he decided to just pretend he was still tied up in case he had to like.  Try and help Nati when they got there.  But they never got to Nati, so Ash was a prisoner by himself.  They were using him as bait, see.  To get Hrafen to come for him.  And of course he did, but like.  Not by himself, duh.  He’s so not stupid, Atan.  But you know that.

Idhror was there, too.  He used to work with Hrafen some, and he’d been sent to like.  Look into the whole thing.  But they found out he’d been duped and used to flush out that Hrafen really is in Bree-land.  And also.  He said that all along he never really planned to take Luin back to Gondor about that old stuff.  It was just.  He had to pretend to go along with it, because at the time, he like.  Didn’t know yet who he could trust.  So anyway, he took a bad blade that had some real bad poison, because he stepped in front of Nati at the hideout when somebody tried to mess him up.  That’s why he nearly died.

I was never around him much before, but I talked to him a little a few nights ago.  Idhror, I mean.  Well, me and Luin did.  They used to be like brothers, you know?  Or maybe you didn’t.  Anyway, Cole hired him to be one of the grounds guards for his properties because like.  He decided not to go back to Gondor.  And he hired Nati, too.  Sort of.  I don’t know what he does, though.  Mostly tags along after Cole.  Hrafen calls him his little shadow.  But anyway, Idhror seems like he’s alright, except.  He talks all proper and blushes at our jokes.  That’s pretty funny.

Right, now I can’t get that whole cherry candy thing out of my mind, so.  I’m going to bed.  I was going to write to Coro, but.  I think I’ll do that tomorrow because I have to–  She wrote me and said she’s in Esgaroth now, her and Mathdor.  I wish I could make a song thing like I heard in that dream.  I probably can’t, but.  Maybe I can make my own kind somehow.  Sort of.  Watch your star, izrê.  Because like.  It’s about to light up like woah.

Atanamir zîrân ‘nNi banâk, kitabdahê êphalak. Ni-zêri ki, izrê ‘nNi.

Where you go,

Ben

P.S.  Sorry about the thing.  Trip did it again.

Aw, Trip. Atan loves hearing from Ben, of course, but he’ll probably stare at some of the things at this one and blink for a while. There’s alot going on there. :P
